How many times have you seen
a piece of graffiti vandalism in your
street, on a local building or fence? Have
you ever thought ‘I wish council would clean
that off’? Well they or the public utility
could if they were told.
Graffiti Hurts – Australia
believes that tackling the issue of graffiti
is a community issue and not what many
people have thought for a long time a local
government and the police issue.
With limited resources
police, local governments and public
utilities have been working hard to remove
graffiti as quick as possible with many
local governments adopting the world best
practice guide of removal within 24-48 hours
of it being reported.
But like the saying goes, if
they aren’t told they don’t know.
This is where you and the
rest of the community can play a big part in
helping to reduce graffiti vandalism within
your community. By reporting acts of
vandalism, authorities are aware of it and
can action it. It can also help them in
gaining evidence for future court case
against that vandal.
How you can help report
it!
Many local councils have
developed graffiti hotlines to help
residents and business owners report
incidents of graffiti vandalism within their
area. To find out if your Local Councils has
a dedicated number please visit our
Local Government
Supporters page and click on your
council to visit their website.
It is also important to
report it to the police so they can gain
information on the type of graffiti
vandalism and by whom has undertaken it.
There are 3 phone numbers
Australia wide that the community can use to
report incidences to the police. These are;
> 000, only if you or
someone else is in a life threatening
situation or emergency.
> 131 444, if you are
witnessing a crime in progress or
wish to report a crime.
> 1800 333 000, if you have
information about illegal activity or
suspected perpetrators relating to
crime anywhere in Australia. This is the
Crime Stoppers number and is toll free.
Without you and your
community helping those who are working to
help you reduce the amount of graffiti
vandalism in your area the blight will just
continue.
